CanadaClub's right about Youtube: I've found a lot of stuff on how to do things there, from grilling the perfect steak to forging swords.

Being in Canada I am not familiar with the stores you have at your disposal. Over here the box stores often put on demos for the customers so you can check with your local building supply store. Other than that you can check out YouTube. I have seen some interesting videos on home improvement. I actually was contemplating doing some myself.
